David Wagner has no regrets at letting Kieran Dowell and Sam Byram leave Norwich City.

The Canaries confirmed on Friday that duo, along with Michael McGovern and current loanees Danel Sinani and Josh Martin, will depart when their current deals run out in the summer.

Attacking midfielder Dowell, who has not played since February after suffering knee ligament damage against Birmingham City, is set to sign for Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

Byram will also be a free agent after an injury-hit Norwich career that saw the former Leeds and West Ham defender make his first start in six months at West Brom last.

Dowell had caught the eye under Wagner, before his season-ending injury, but the City head coach insisted at Colney on Friday evening it is time to move.

“Obviously he's done quite well in the time I worked with him, but we said this beforehand we would like to refresh the group,” he said. “For this we have to create space as well. I'm absolutely fine with all the decisions which we made so far. And I'm really looking forward to

what we will do further in the future. We made the decisions, and at the end of the day all of them are good guys and players I really liked to work with and, for me personally, I wish them all the best for the future.

“With Sam I think he was here at the club for a few years and, unfortunately, he was never able to put run of games consistently together because of injuries. It's the right decision. We thank him for everything he has done, and it will be quite interesting what his next club might be."

McGovern, Sinani and Martin will also join the exodus.

“Danel, I've known quite well, to be fair before I arrived," said Wagner. "But on the other side, yes, I take on board what the guys who were here told me what happened beforehand (with the other players).

"I really strongly believe in the fact we have to refresh, and we will refresh, the group. And this means we have to bring new faces, new energy, new mentality into this group.”
