Paddy rates Johannes Hoff Thorup’s Norwich City, who traded blows with Sheffield United in an entertaining Championship duel.
Angus Gunn 7
Confident early take from Kieffer Moore knock down. Got nowhere near a Harrison Burrows’ inswinging corner Harry Souttar headed onto the roof of his net. No chance with Oliver Arblaster’s low finish into his bottom left corner.
Strong double-handed parry to thwart Burrows, who caught a half-volley sweetly from just inside the area in the 56th minute. Got his angles spot on to grasp Gustavo Hamer’s rising free kick at the second attempt.
Jack Stacey 6
Heart in mouth moment in stoppage time when he appeared to gift Moore the ball as he shaped up to defend a late counter, but recovered his ground. Not strong enough in the air to trouble the towering forward with a fifth minute header.
Sliced Hamer’s free kick into his side netting. Tame cross collected by Michael Cooper inside the opening 20 minutes.
Shane Duffy 7
Good comeback after his shaky Blackburn offering. Excellent reading of the game when the Blades threatened to counter on numerous occasions.
Came across in front of Callum O’Hare to halt a slaloming run from Hamer. Was out sharply down the opposite flank to intercept a Burrows’ cross, after he had ran off the back of Jack Stacey.
Threaded the ball to Marcelino Nunez for the City opener. Spirit of adventure in the 29th minute, when he found himself in the final third, but in desperation had to foul O’Hare to earn a booking after the move broke down.
Callum Doyle 8
Baller. Rock-solid in defending. Accomplished in possession. Willing to get hurt when he raced across the box to intercept from Andre Brooks, who dangled a leg. Tried to do the same in the 32nd minute at his near post, but could only deflect Brooks’ cross towards Arblaster, who finished adeptly.
Snapped in on Moore to halt a counter and then a fearless sliding collision with Vinicius Souza saw the United midfielder come off worse.
Planned free kick routine saw him head Ben Chrisene’s diagonal back into the danger zone, where Sargent glanced a header at Michael Cooper. Perfectly-timed sliding challenge on his byline to halt Brooks.
Ben Chrisene 6
Looked on the whole more assured than his home league debut the previous weekend. Albeit had his work cut out with first Brooks and later Jes Rak-Sakyi. Sliding tackle on Alfie Gilchrist won a throw near his own corner flag.
Strong to shepherd the ball over his goalline, after Arblaster tried to square him up and go on the outside. Excellent block to thwart Brooks after Ante Crnac was turned over. Linked well with Callum Doyle in a front-footed second half.
Received one pass in the 63rd minute but when his initial cross was cut out he got his body in front of Brooks to halt a counter.
Kenny McLean 6
Wily to break up the play at times and win fouls in and around his own box. Probing long chip had Sargent interested in the 48th minute, but the ball skipped off the sodden turf and bounced through to Cooper.
Took one for the team, and Nunez, in the 74th minute when he had to haul down Souza just outside his penalty area after the Chilean’s sloppy turnover.
Marcelino Nunez 7
That error aside, another shift to highlight his importance and growing influence in this Thorup system. Raking pass for Sargent in the 13th minute sparked a move that ended with a tame Stacey cross.
Collected from Shane Duffy and zipped a sharp pass into Amankwah Forson to pick out Sargent for the opening goal. Another spot and combination with Sargent released Borja Sainz, who allowed the defender to lever him off the ball.
Could perhaps sense the danger a fraction quicker to get out to Arblaster. Squared a free kick to Chrisene who picked out Doyle and then Sargent. Wonderful raking diagonal for Sainz, was clubbed out of player. Drilled a 25-yard free kick at Cooper in the 68th minute.
Amankwah Forson 6
Dreamy velvet touch to cushion Nunez’s ball into the channel for Sargent to draw Cooper and slot. Quality take from a Kenny McLean chip was the precursor to a driving run in the fourth minute.
Pincered by Souza seconds later as he drove forward again. But withdrawn early in the second half as a precaution, with Thorup citing his first half yellow card and that disciplinary tightrope.
Ante Crnac 6
Whirlwind few days saw him start after one training session following his move from Poland. The intensity and physicality of the Championship appeared something of a shock on a couple of occasions, when he was exposed. Ran into trouble in the 35th minute but bailed out by Chrisene’s goal-saving block.
But glimpses of what he can bring. Sat down Souza in the seventh minute to thread a ball for Sainz who diverted it away from the sliding Sargent. Deflected shot on the hour mark spiralled up for Cooper. Clever link up play with Sargent in the 70th minute, who dragged his shot at Cooper from 18 yards.
Josh Sargent 8
Roll on Friday’s deadline with the American goalscoring talisman remaining in the building. A second consecutive Championship game on the scoresheet, and another entry for his Carrow Road showreel. Was on the move when he rolled the final defender to advance onto Forson’s flick and draw Cooper.
Could not adjust his body in time to anticipate Sainz’s miscue from Ante Crnac’s low pass. Turned a speculative Nunez chip into a moment of promise in the 13th minute, but Stacey clipped a cross at Cooper.
Intelligently dropped deep in the 29th minute to collect from Nunez and turn out to release Sainz. Glancing header as he fell backwards from Doyle’s flick. Pulled his shot from the edge of the box at the Blades’ keeper.
Borja Sainz 6
Imprecise on his final pass or decision for most of the afternoon. More weight required on the early touch from Crnac. Let Gilchrist get back to alleviate the danger. Scythed down in the 67th minute, after a cheeky show-and-go get the drop on Brooks.

Liam Gibbs (for Forson, 53) 6
Controlled Nunez’s switch with a touch that took Raku-Sakyi out of the game. Exchanged passes with Chriense but his attempted curling cross sailed over. Good anticipation to help another diagonal onto Onel Hernandez to race into the box.
Onel Hernandez (for Crnac, 88) n/a
Wanted to cut back and get a shooting chance on his right on the angle of the six yard box, when Liam Gibbs headed him clear
