Leeds United 4-0 Norwich City: Championship player ratings

Angus Gunn

A terrible time for the Scottish number one to turn out comfortably his worst performance of the season. Has been incredibly reliable throughout the course of the season, but it's hard to diagnose his evening as anything but disastrous.

Slow to react when Ilia Gruev's free-kick caught him out in seventh minute, then should have claimed Willy Gnonto's cross for the second. Finally a goal went in that he couldn't be blamed for when Georginio Rutter took advantage of a defensive mess, but Gunn's parry led straight to the game-sealing fourth.

Some good saves in the second half, but the game was already gone. 3

Jack Stacey

Worked hard and made a few canny defensive interventions, but needed help from others to get close to stopping the Leeds barrage.

Offensively offered very little, with Gabriel Sara marked out of the game in front of him. 5

Shane Duffy

Contributed to a series of chaotic defensive calamities, the most memorable of which was a helpful toe poke to third goalscorer Georginio Rutter.

Suffered from a lack of protection but looked paralysed in his attempts to deny a fervent home attack. 4

Ben Gibson

Spun early and easily by Piroe to set the tone for his miserable evening. As chaotic as his defensive partner, albeit with a few more line-breaking passes in possession.

Neither closed down Gnonto or showed him outside as he casually crossed for the second, in what is likely to be his final appearance for the club. 4

Dimitris Giannoulis

Also the last time Giannoulis will pull on the yellow and green, and it was a fairly acceptable performance compared to his team-mates.

Similarly to Stacey he made a few well-timed tackles and worked hard with little protection from Jonathan Rowe, providing some attacking thrust on occasion as well.

Couldn’t produce anything tangible, however, and was managed well by the hosts. 6

Marcelino Nunez

Not a great evening for the Chilean after his impressive first-leg display. Tried hard to break things up in midfield but was swamped by a clutch of high-calibre talent.

Looked surprisingly short of ideas in possession, although a trio of unfit attackers didn’t help in that department. 5

Kenny McLean

It was hard not to feel sorry for McLean, who tried everything to get his side on the front foot but just couldn’t do it all by himself.

Actually acquitted himself fairly well at times against Rutter and Piroe, but didn’t see much of his hard work rewarded. 6

Gabriel Sara

Completely marked out of the game by Leeds, who were aware of the Brazilian’s talent and nullified it superbly.

Had a couple of chances to exploit an open game at 1-0, but didn’t take them. Hardly a fitting end if he’s to move on this summer. 4

Ashley Barnes

Gave Josh Sargent more freedom to exploit the space behind the Leeds defence, sending him through on goal at 2-0 before the American squandered his big chance.

Went fairly quiet thereafter, departing to an unsavoury serenade from the home fans. 5

Jonathan Rowe

Nowhere near the player City fans have come to know and love. Lost possession at nearly every opportunity, struggled defensively and topped it all off with a booking for simulation.

A definite argument that Wagner should have given him more minutes earlier, with Rowe’s two play-off appearances seriously underbaked. 3

Josh Sargent

An improvement on the first leg, but still a hugely frustrating display from the man who turned his side’s season around. Elected to chip when sent through, but was denied by Illan Meslier. 4

SUBSTITUTES

Borja Sainz (on for Sargent, 45)

Tried his very best to get Norwich back in the game, but was consistently crowded out and stifled. 5

Sam McCallum (on for Giannoulis, 62)

Kept things fairly quiet down his side, but the fierce Leeds rotation had tended toward the Norwich right anyway. 5

Christian Fassnacht (on for Gibson, 62)

Unlikely to ever be a game-changer on this occasion despite Wagner's reshuffle. 5

Sydney van Hooijdonk (on for Barnes, 81)

Had a shot, which was progress, but in truth will be relieved his Carrow Road nightmare has come to an end. 5

Jacob Sorensen (on for Rowe, 81)

Carded late on. Hard to tell if he'll wear a Norwich shirt again. 5
