Norwich City winger Christian Fassnacht has reportedly held talks over a return to Swiss side Young Boys.

The experienced attacker has made only one Championship appearance this term owing to an Achilles injury and is out of contract at Carrow Road at the end of the season.

Respected Swiss outlet Berner Zeitung are reporting that Young Boys are interested in bringing Fassnacht back to the club after a poor start to their domestic season, having taken nine points from their opening 10 matches.

That has prompted club chiefs to consider their options ahead of the January transfer window, leading to contact with Fassnacht's representatives over a potential return to the Wankdorf Stadium.

Norwich signed Fassnacht in a deal from the nine-time Swiss champions for £3m in 2023 to reunite with David Wagner in Norfolk.

It was Fassnacht's first move outside Switzerland, and saw him end a six-year spell with the Bern-based club, during which he played over 250 times and won two league titles. He has confirmed any return to his home country would have to involve his former club.

"Of course, we also talk about future plans. It's clear to me that if I move back to Switzerland, then only to Bern," Fassnacht has been quoted by 4-4-2.com.

In an interview with the Pink Un earlier this month, Fassnacht was asked about his contractual situation at Carrow Road and expressed his desire to remain in Norfolk beyond the end of his current deal.

Hopefully the club says 'hey, let's extend the contract with Fassi and he stays for another one or two years'.

"But at the moment I can't do anything. First of all I need to get fit, and then we will see what's next."

Norwich do have an option to extend his stay at the club by a further year. Fassnacht is expected to be in back in Championship action in the coming weeks, with a training return scheduled for next week.
