Norwich City are closing in on the signing of young Chelsea defender Billy Gee.

The teenager has travelled to Norfolk to undergo a medical and will join up with the Canaries development squad initially after a free transfer was agreed with the five-time Premier League champions.

The move to bring the England U19 international to Carrow Road includes add-ons and a sell-on fee for Chelsea. He will join up with Alan Neilson's under-21 side in the first instance.

Gee, 19, was Chelsea's under-21 captain last season and was named on the bench for their Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool in February. He made 16 Premier League Two appearances for the Blues last season.

Gee can also play as a defensive midfielder and has been at Chelsea since joining as an eight-year-old. His lengthy stay at Stamford Bridge is set to come to an end after a decision over his development. The pathway at City is seen as more realistic.

Norwich are working on a handful of development additions on deadline day, with Dundee United attacker Brandon Forbes for an initial £300k. Outgoings are expected with Jonathan Tomkinson weighing up two permanent offers to depart Carrow Road whilst Ken Aboh is set to join Stevenage on loan.

City's academy is now headed up by Dean Rastrick, who spent over a decade working at Tottenham Hotspur. An increased focus has been placed on attracting young talent into the building to build their development sides alongside those currently in the academy.
