Norwich City have sealed a deadline day loan move for Sheffield United midfielder Anis Ben Slimane.

The Copenhagen-born, Tunisian international becomes the Canaries' seventh senior signing of the Johannes Hoff Thorup era on an initial loan with a buy option that could convert to an obligation on the trigger of certain clauses.

City are believed to have negotiated a £1.4m purchase fee for the 23-year-old, who signed for the Blades from Brondby last summer ahead of the Yorkshire club's Premier League tilt.

Slimane, who made 15 top flight appearances last season and came off the bench in last Saturday's 1-1 Carrow Road Championship draw, is seen as another number eight option but can also play anywhere across the middle of the park and further forward.

The midfielder was not part of Chris Wilder's squad for the midweek League Cup exit at Barnsley, with Wilder revealing afterwards Slimane had asked not to be included following transfer interest from the Canaries.

"I'm really excited to get started and finally be here now. I can't wait," the 23-year-old told the club's official site

"I know the manager pretty well and I've been told a lot of good things about the club, fans, training facilities. I'm just really looking forward to getting started and giving something back to the fans."

“We’re delighted to welcome Anis to the club," added sporting director Ben Knapper. "We feel he is another really good addition that will increase the competition within our group and give us more options and flexibility.

“He adds a slightly different profile than what we have already, and can draw upon experience of both the Premier League and international football. We feel we can help him improve further, too.”

Slimane, who will wear the number 20 shirt, is the first piece of confirmed inward deadline day business from the Canaries ahead of the 11pm cut-off.

Hull City remain interested in Abu Kamara, with a growing expectation all parties will reach an agreement for the 21-year-old, who submitted a written transfer request earlier this month.

The Tigers are believed to have returned with an improved offer on Friday morning, after a reported £4m package was lodged on Thursday afternoon.

Norwich will look to replace the wide player, ideally with a permanent recruit, but mindful of the clock ticking are also weighing up potential loan options.

Below first team level, the Canaries' academy recruitment team is also busy on concluding deals for Dundee United attacker Brandon Forbes and Chelsea's teenage defender, Billy Gee.

Dan Barden has already sealed a loan move to League Two Swindon, with Ken Aboh poised to link up with League One Stevenage.
