Norwich City have seen a loan offer for Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo turned down.

The Canaries made a move for the 23-year-old attacker as the latest target in their pursuit of wide reinforcements but have seen the pursuit rejected by the Scottish club, who are unwilling to sanction an exit for the Welsh international.

Norwich's interest in Matondo is now considered over and they will move on to other targets ahead of Friday's deadline.

City are actively hunting for another wide midfielder before Friday's deadline after the departure of Jonathan Rowe to Marseille with Abu Kamara also in talks with Championship clubs to exit Carrow Road.

That will leave Johannes Hoff Thorup light on attacking options, and City are hoping to add to their ranks, but any addition will have to add quality rather than providing just another body in the building.

City also admired Burnley-bound winger Jaiden Anthony, but a high loan fee was a stumbling block in any prospective deal. Real Madrid's Reinier remains a player of interest.

Norwich are working to bring Sheffield United midfielder Anis Slimane to Carrow Road on an initial loan deal with an option to buy. There is hope that will get done before 11pm on Friday.

Thorup confirmed after Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace that City were looking for options to add competition and depth to their squad, but that any deal has to be right for them.

"Yeah, I think we have to," Thorup said when asked if Norwich needed to make additions before the deadline.

"Just to make the competition around the starting XI positions as tough as possible. That's our ambition in this window. We're looking for players where they need to be able to come in and perform to create that competition.

"It's always difficult to find but we are looking."
