Norwich City have completed the signing of attacking midfield prospect Oscar Schwartau from Danish side Brondby.
The 18-year-old signs a four-year deal at Carrow Road, with a club option to extend by a further 12 months. The Canaries will pay an initial fee of around £2million to Brondby, who also retain a sell-on clause reported in Denmark to be 15pc.
Schwartau will immediately join up with the first team at Norwich, but wasn’t registered in time to play a part in this afternoon’s Championship meeting with Sheffield United.
He’s played in a variety of positions in midfield, out wide and up front, with his versatility part of the reason he was identified as a target by City sporting director Ben Knapper.
He already has 13 caps for the Danish under-19 side, scoring four times, as well as well as 46 senior appearances and six strikes at club level, after coming through Brondby's academy setup.
Speaking to club channels about the move, Schwartau said: "It's a big moment for me. I'm very grateful for this opportunity. Coming to this big club, it's a nice place to be so I'm very happy.
"I'm very excited, it's going to be different moving to another country but I'm looking forward to it."
Knapper added: "Oscar is one of the most exciting talents in Danish football, and we’re delighted to be able to bring him here to Norwich City.
"Despite being just 18 years old, he already has some great experience in senior football, in both domestic and European competition. We are sure that in our environment we can continue to develop him to realise his full potential.
"He’ll need time, of course, but we’re looking forward to working with him and integrating him into our first-team group."
Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup saw his new charge’s talents first hand when he managed in Denmark with Nordsjaelland, seeing his compatriot score an impressive back heel as they lost 5-1 to Brondby in 2023.
"He's a good player, he's a player with very good timing in his game," Thorup said of Schwartau at his pre-Blades press conference. "He's good at reading situations, joining the box at the right time. He has a good vision for scoring goals and being involved offensively.
"He can cover a lot of ground, he has a good physique. He played early in the Danish league, and has been used to a competitive environment for several years now, even though he is young."
City's sixth summer arrival takes the number 29 shirt vacated by Adam Forshaw when he left for Plymouth Argyle in January.
