Norwich are looking for consecutive opening-day victories for the first time since 1995 to 1996, with Oxford United failing to win any of their last six matches at the beginning of the campaign.

Thorup is weighing up the fitness of summer signing Jose Cordoba ahead of this clash due to a thigh issue that has prevented his progress in pre-season. The Panamanian international has trained this week, but Norwich may opt for caution as they seek to build up his fitness reserves.

Ashley Barnes is definitely ruled out, but will step up his return from calf surgery when he begins his pre-season training on Monday.

Norwich completed the signing of RB Salzburg midfielder Fosorn on Friday and were facing a race against time to register him in time for this fixture. Callum Doyle, who also joined the club on loan from Manchester City this week, is expected to start.

Speculation around the futures of Adam Idah and Jon Rowe have been persistent in the build-up to this fixture, but both are expected to play a role in the season opener despite interest from Celtic and Marseille, respectively.

Oxford are looking ahead to their first game in the second tier this century, ending a 25-year wait by emerging victorious from the League One play-offs back in May with victories over Peterborough and Bolton.

Des Buckingham has made 12 new additions to his squad, including ex-City winger Przemyslaw Placheta, former West Brom attacker Matt Phillips and midfield enforcer Will Vaulks, most recently at Sheffield Wednesday.

They have been tipped for relegation by most, but Buckingham is determined to utilise that underdog tag in their mission to survive.

1,500 City fans are expected to travel to the Kassam Stadium this lunchtime.
