Marseille have formalised their interest in Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe by submitting an official bid for the 21-year-old.

As first reported by Fabrizio Romano, that was received by the Canaries on Friday, but they are keen to retain Rowe this summer and the bid falls short of the winger's valuation.

Leeds are also among a list of suitors eyeing a potential deal for the winger, who has entered the last year of his City contract, although the club possess a 12-month option in their favour.

Rowe has travelled with City's squad ahead of tomorrow's Championship opener against Oxford United and is set to be involved as it currently stands. Leeds United have also made their interest known to the Canaries, but are still short of the numbers required to prize the winger away from Carrow Road this summer.

Johannes Hoff Thorup was asked about Rowe's situation at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, and praised the England U21 international's conduct amidst speculation over his future.

“That's how it is. These guys, they train with the group, and they are important players for the group,” said Thorup. “We have to respect that the window is still open so many things can happen. We cannot affect what will happen.

"We cannot affect whether there will be an offer from a club here or there. That's also what I tell the players on a daily basis. Fortunately, they are they're doing well. They're performing well. They're training well and I will also say that their heads are ready to perform.”

The latest round of speculation on the eve of the Championship season comes after Gabriel Sara joined Galatasaray earlier the week in a deal worth over £20m plus add ons and bonuses to the Canaries.

Talks between Celtic and City are believed to be progressing, with a fee of £6m plus add-ons being discussed.
