Norwich City have confirmed the signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle on a season long loan.
The 20-year-old underwent a medical and completed the formalities on his Carrow Road switch on Monday after returning from the Citizens' US tour.
City beat off competition from a number of Championship sides for Doyle, who was part of Leicester City's title-winning season last year, and previously helped Coventry City reach the play-off final.
Johannes Hoff Thorup indicated after Saturday's pre-season finale against St Pauli he was confident they would have a left-sided defensive option in the building ahead of Oxford.
He becomes Norwich's third senior defensive signing of the current window following Panama international Jose Cordoba and Aston Villa left-back Ben Chrisene.
Doyle, who will wear the number six shirt, can operate at left back or centre back and was deployed in a similar set up for Enzo Maresca's Foxes last season.
"I’m very excited and glad that it’s finally done," he said, speaking to the club's official site. "I feel really grateful to be here and can’t wait to get started. The facilities are great and I think we can have a really good season here.
"They want me to play either of two positions. Left back or centre back. I know the positions very well and I think I can do that. I'm happy to play both positions and do a job.
"I'd like to bring my experiences (from the Championship) and hopefully we can aim for that promotion.
"It was a good experience (being out in the US) with Pep (Guardiola). Obviously to play with the senior players was good. Top players. I got minutes under my belt and that was good to dust the cobwebs off. I feel I can hit the ground running."
“Callum is a player we’ve wanted to bring to the club for some time, and I’m so happy that our patience has been rewarded," added sporting director Ben Knapper.
“We feel he’s a great fit for how we want to play, and he brings with him some fantastic experience at this level for someone who’s still just 20. His pedigree is there for all to see and he’ll be an important player for us this season.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Manchester City for entrusting us with the next stage of his development, and I’m sure this can be a mutually beneficial step for all parties.
“We’re all so excited to work with Callum and are looking forward to seeing how he can contribute to the team over the coming season.”
The England Under-21 international has made nearly 100 appearances in the Football League and was identified by the Canaries to bolster the left side of Norwich's backline.
The Manchester City academy product had a fact-finding trip to Colney earlier in the summer, but was part of Guardiola's plans for US tour games against the likes of AC Milan, Barcelona, Celtic and Chelsea.
The defender is expected to come immediately into contention for the Championship kick-off on Saturday, with Cordoba a fitness doubt after sitting out the final two friendlies.
