Leeds United are set to make a £7million bid for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe, according to reports.

The Canaries confirmed the sale of Gabriel Sara only yesterday in a deal that could rise to £23million, but they could be tempted into parting with their other star men if the price is right.

Leeds are set to test their resolve on Rowe, having made contact about a potential move for the 21-year-old, who has 12 months left on his contract although the club have another year option available to them.

The Telegraph have claimed that will turn into a formal offer before long, although it's understood that the clubs have significantly different valuations at present, and that £7million wouldn't be close to an acceptable offer.

Rowe scored 13 goals and claimed three assists last season despite making his senior debut in its opening game, earning two English under-21 caps in the process. He's built on his exciting debut season with an encouraging, scoring four goals in warm-up friendlies for next term.

New head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup praised the London native after an impressive showing last week against Europa League side Hoffenheim, but said there was still progress to be made.

"I’m in his ear every day, because we need to get him to work harder," he said. "And to understand that he simply needs to be more involved in the game and be more on the move, especially without the ball, where he needs to bring more intensity into the game.

"There's so much potential in that boy, we just have to release it and get it out there. There is a lot more to come, and that is how it should be for a player of his age.

"What is obvious for us, clear and obvious, is that the potential is there, the high quality is there. We just need to make sure that he can produce that every game we play, and he can show that every game we play.

"The new season for him should not be a season where it's up and down and up and down, which is fair sometimes for young players. But now is the next step with him where he can produce a high performance level almost every game. I think it's fair to expect that."

City will look to replace Sara before the transfer window shuts later this month, with left-back Callum Doyle expected to sign on loan from Manchester City before Saturday's Championship opener against Oxford United.

Thorup also hinted at work in other areas of his squad after the 3-1 defeat to St. Pauli at Carrow Road, but declined to specify which ones.
