Reports linking Norwich City with Sheffield United striker Will Osula are understood to be wide of the mark.

The Dane is close to a move north-east after the Magpies agreed an initial £10million fee for him, having impressed last season in United's run to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

It had been claimed that City were interested in Osula before Eddie Howe's side agreed to meet the asking price, along with Austrian side Sturm Graz.

But the Canaries have not been chasing a deal for the 20-year-old this summer, and are focusing their recruitment work elsewhere.

They currently have three senior centre-forwards in their setup, with Johannes Hoff Thorup's striking department consisting of Ashley Barnes, Adam Idah and Josh Sargent.

Speculation has surrounded both Idah and Sargent, however, with the former the subject of a drawn-out sage involving former loan club Celtic.

Sporting director Ben Knapper and his recruitment team continually scenario plan for the departures of players and situations where replacements are needed, but have prioritised the left side of defence this summer.

A significant profit is still needed from their transfer dealings this summer, with at least one of the club's most valuable players likely to leave before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

Former Blackburn Rovers loanee Ben Chrisene became City's second signing of the summer when he completed a move from Aston Villa earlier this week, with Jose Cordoba signed from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia in June.

Manchester City defender Callum Doyle is expected to complete a season-long loan switch to Carrow Road when the Citizens return from their US tour next week, with the Championship campaign kicking off on August 10 at Oxford United.

Osula has played 31 times in all competitions for his current club, scoring three goals. He spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Derby County, scoring five times in 21 appearances, and has six caps with the Danish under-21s.
