Portsmouth are readying an official bid for Norwich City winger Abu Kamara, according to reports.
The south-coast side have been open about their desire to reunite with Kamara after an impressive season on loan at Fratton Park, but the 20-year-old has long been a part of City's plans for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign and beyond.
It's understood that there's been no contact between the clubs at this stage. Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke says Pompey will test the Canaries' resolve, however, and try to tempt them into selling with an official offer.
Kamara became a fan favourite operating from the right wing at Portsmouth, scoring 10 goals and claiming 11 assists in his time at the club.
Head coach John Mousinho left the door open to a potential return last month, telling The News: "I'm assuming the new manager at Norwich will want to have a proper look at him before making a decision.
"You never know, we’ll certainly be there if anything develops from Norwich’s standpoint.
"We know Abs was excellent for us last season, but you never know what Norwich have in the building, what they’re planning to bring in or what profiles they’re looking for.
"From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there."
The English youth international is highly-rated behind the scenes at Carrow Road, and a significant transfer fee would be required for sporting director Ben Knapper to consider a sale.
He was part of their pre-season opener against Northampton Town, playing 45 minutes of a 3-0 victory at Sixfields, and is expected to play a part in Belgian friendlies against Club Brugge and Standard Liege.
But finances are tight at Norwich presently, with a significant profit needed from their player trading this summer and gaps still to be plugged in Johannes Hoff Thorup's first-team squad.
Although there is Premier League interest in golden trio Josh Sargent, Jonathan Rowe and Gabriel Sara, no clubs have taken significant action in their attempts to sign any of them.
Trabzonspor have also given up on their hopes of luring Marcelino Nunez to Papara Park, according to reports from Turkey, and Celtic have not yet submitted an acceptable offer for former loanee Adam Idah.
