Norwich City are keen on Casa Pia's Leonardo Lelo, but are currently pursuing other targets in their search for a left-back.

The Canaries have been open about their desire to sign at least one player in the position this summer, after Sam McCallum joined Sheffield United on a free transfer and Dimitris Giannoulis left at the end of his contract.

Portuguese outlet Record had stated that Lelo is an option at left-back, and that City have been tracking him in a bid to boost their Premier League hopes.

The 24-year-old joined Casa Pia from Olhanense in 2021, and has scored nine goals and claimed 11 assists in 109 games for the club. Sixty of those came in the Portuguese top flight, while Lelo has also played 34 times in the second tier.

He also earned five under-21 caps for Portugal between 2022 and 2023, going to the under-21 Euros but failing to come off the bench.

He likely would mean a transfer fee for City, with finances tight this summer and multiple money-saving avenues being explored by sporting director Ben Knapper.

Manchester City's Callum Doyle, who has played at both centre-back and left-back during his career, is a player of interest to Norwich, although any move for the former Leicester title-winner would be on loan.

Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup gave an encouraging update on his side's transfer exploits after opening pre-season with a 3-0 win over Northampton, telling the Pink Un: "I think Ben (Knapper) was calling a lot of people these days. So I think something will happen soon.

"I know sometimes people, including myself, can be a little bit impatient, but it's more important that we get the right left-back instead of just getting a left-back fast or quick.

"That's the most important thing, but he's making a lot of phone calls, Ben, and we're having a lot of meetings. So hopefully there will be something within not too many weeks."
