Norwich City have confirmed set piece coach Andy Hughes has joined newly-promoted Premier League club Leicester City.

City sanctioned his departure after agreeing a compensation package for Hughes to link up with Steve Cooper at the Foxes.

The former Canaries’ player initially returned to Norfolk as loans’ manager in 2021 before stepping up to be part of David Wagner’s backroom team in 2023.

Hughes, along with first team coach Narcis Pelach and goalkeeping coach Paul Clements were all retained in the aftermath of Wagner’s summer exit.

City confirmed the news early on Monday morning.

“Despite all being disappointed that we’re losing such a key member of the team in Andrew, he leaves with our very best wishes," said sporting director Ben Knapper, on the club's official site.

“The impact of his work has been clear for everyone to see, and his energy and enthusiasm is something we’ll all miss day-to-day at the training ground.

“We wish him nothing but the best in his new challenge, and we’ve no doubt he’ll be a great success.”

Knapper previously confirmed Hughes had been approached by Premier League clubs when he spoke at the recent unveiling of new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

“(Would you need to get a replacement?) We’d look at it of course," he said. "Andy adds a lot of value. Everyone can see from the season just gone the impact that he made around set pieces. If we get to that stage, then we need to have a conversation around how that looks for us moving forward.

“I think it would be highly likely that we'd look to add something, but it's not even happened yet, so we need to just let things play out and then we can act accordingly.”
