Xavi Quintilla has a new club after agreeing to join Cypriot champions APOEL on a permanent deal.

The former City loanee has joined on a permanent deal after his former club AD Alcorcon were relegated from the Segunda Division last season.

Quintilla was out of contract and opted to depart to explore his options. The left-back was linked with other Spanish sides but has chosen to head abroad to continue his career with APOEL, who claimed the title on goal difference ahead of AEK Larnaca.

The Spaniard played just 12 times for Norwich after joining them on loan from La Liga side Villarreal on a loan to buy deal ahead of their successful title-winning campaign back in 2020/21.

Quintilla struggled with injury, prompting Norwich to move to sign PAOK left-back Dimitris Giannoulis in January of that campaign after a spell with Jacob Sorensen performing a makeshift role in that position.

There was a flurry of appearances at the back end of that campaign, with Quintilla scoring in successive matches with QPR and Reading en route to City, claiming the title under Daniel Farke.

Norwich elected against signing Quintilla on a permanent basis, and he subsequently moved to Leganes on another season-long loan. He had a spell with Portuguese side Santa Clara before returning to Spain to move to Alcorcon.

Discussing his departure from the Spanish club, Quintilla wrote: "To all the Alcorcon family;
Thank you very much for this year, for the love you have given me at all times and the moments lived.. I have been very happy.

"Sometimes things don't end up as we want, but the fight and character of this team should never be underestimated. I wish with all my heart that this club returns to where it deserves."

From relegation from the second division in Spain, Quintilla could now be playing Champions League football next season as APOEL join the qualification stage at the second qualifying round.

The 29-time Cypriot champions officially unveiled Quintilla earlier this week and he will link up with his new side in time for pre-season.
