Jose Cordoba has taken one step closer to becoming Norwich City's first signing of the summer after reports suggesting the Canaries have agreed fee with Levski Sofia.
Reports in Bulgaria are reporting that the 22-year-old will sign a four-year deal at Carrow Road, having completed a medical during a trip to Colney earlier in the week.
Norwich have struck a deal worth £3m, according to Bulgarian outlet Gong, with Cordoba convinced to sign for the Canaries during a meeting in Norfolk with new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup and sporting director Ben Knapper earlier in the week.
The Panamanian international now looks set to be officially unveiled next week, with City identifying him as their prime target to succeed Ben Gibson as a left-sided central defender next season.
City look to have beaten Rangers to the signing of Cordoba - the Scottish Premiership runners-up reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the Levski defender earlier in the week after growing frustrated at a lack of progress.
Cordoba even travelled to Glasgow to watch Rangers' clash against Kilmarnock, but preferred a move to England to pursue his aspirations of one day playing in the Premier League.
That left City with a clear run to sign the defender. A deal is expected to be formalised next week as the Canaries prepare to make him the first signing of their new era.
French clubs Lille and Brest plus Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise were also monitoring his progress.
Stanislav Genchev, who became Levski's new coach earlier this week, was asked about Cordoba's potential exit on Thursday and confirmed talks were ongoing over his departure.
"Jose Córdoba is not sold yet. Talks with a club, but no deal yet", Genchev said. "It is not pleasant for any coach to have his best defender sold.
"Córdoba is still a Levski player. If he is sold, we have to find a player in his place. I know from experience that one of the most difficult things is to find a central defender, a left-sided player."
Norwich are expected to ramp up their transfer activity over the coming weeks, with Nordsjaelland left-back Martin Frese a target, but City face competition from Europe for his signature.
