Adam Idah was the hero for Celtic as his late winner secured a 1-0 victory over Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

The Norwich City loanee latched onto the rebound after a shot from Paulo Bernardo was parried by Jack Butland into Idah’s path, allowing him to tap home to secure a domestic double for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

It is the second time that Idah has netted in an Old Firm derby, and the goal will only intensify the calls from supporters to sign him on a permanent basis.

Rodgers elected to start Kyogo Furuhashi after mulling over his starting striker. Idah replaced the Japenese on 62 minutes.

In a tight encounter, it was Idah’s contribution that proved pivotal - breaking the deadlock at the death to decide the contest.

It caps off a fine six months for the Irishman since his move north of the border in January. Idah netted eight times in 18 matches during his spell at Celtic.

As it stands, Idah is set to return to Carrow Road this summer - but made no secrets about how much he’s enjoyed his spell at the Scottish champions.

"I said I'd come here to try and score as many goals as I could, I didn't think I'd score a goal like this in front of all these fans. It's an amazing feeling,” Idah told BBC Scotland.

"It's hard to put into words. Anyone here can see what it means to the fans, to the players. I've always supported Celtic, it's amazing.

"Football is tricky. I love it here, I've said it previously, it's a great club but I'm still contracted to Norwich. I'll go back in the summer and who knows?"

Former City midfielder Todd Cantwell was on the opposing side alongside Kieran Dowell, who was an unused substitute at Hampden Park.
