AFC Wimbledon 2 Norwich City Women 2

Norwich City produced a remarkable late show to rescue a point against Women’s National League Division One South East leaders AFC Wimbledon in South London.

Scott Emmerson chose to stick with the same team that started City’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers, but the Canaries were slow to settle into what was a significant match for them.

City goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill made an impressive double save in the early stages of the first half, but was wrong-footed in the 21st minute when Alice Parker diverted the ball into her own net while attempting to clear a dangerous Dons attack.

On the stroke of half-time, the hosts doubled their advantage, with the league’s top scorer Ashlee Hincks volleying Breon Grant’s cross home at the back post.

City’s second half performance was flat for the most part, but Holly Kennard offered her team a glimmer of hope when she diverted Freya Symonds’ free-kick past Dons stopper Lauren Allen not long before stoppage time.

Striker Shannon Shaw then nodded home the visitors’ equaliser to keep City’s slim hopes of promotion alive, and to maintain their unbeaten league record.
