Emmanuel Adegboyega is targeting consistency during his loan posting at League Two side Walsall as he targets a 'dream' breakthrough at Norwich City.

The Irish centre-back joined the Canaries last summer and was sent on loan to the play-off-chasing Saddlers as the next step in his personal development, having impressed for the under-21s.

Adegboyega has shown patience but is now a regular in Mat Sadler's first team, even finding a goal-scoring edge, having scored three goals in eight matches.

Opportunity will likely emerge at Norwich for their young stable of defenders away on loan, this summer with vacancies set to open up. Adegboyega will be hoping to stake his claim for a senior role in pre-season and has admitted to keeping one eye on City's fortunes.

"As of right now, I am focused on helping Walsall get as far as we can, so the conversations can always be held around that, but my head is locked in on Walsall right now," Adegboyega told the Pink Un.

"Those conversations will be had closer to the time. I'm keeping one eye on Walsall and one eye on Norwich.

"They are doing very well. They played Stoke, won and I'm hoping they will go up. I'm just trying to focus on one thing at a time.

"I've had regular communication with Andrew (Hughes) who texts me after games to see how it has gone afterwards. Small stuff like that keeps me going.

"My parent club are looking after me, checking in and consistently watching my games. It keeps me attached, and I'm not too distant from my parent club."

Those aspirations to play at Carrow Road are helping drive Adegboyega's standards whilst at the Bescot Stadium.

Considering 12 months ago he was plying his trade in the League of Ireland at Drogheda United, Adegboyega is still having to pinch himself at his progress as he aims for more.

"If I keep continuing to focus on my game here, then I can go to my parent club and try to implement that consistency as well to one day make my debut and be a consistent first-team player at Norwich," Adegboyega said.

"Even saying it sounds like a dream, but it's something that I'm striving towards."
