Norwich City Women have confirmed that they have parted company with head coach Martin Herdman.

Herdman, who was appointed as Shaun Howes' successor last summer, leaves the Canaries with the side sitting second in the Division One South East, having not lost a single game in the league this season.

Norwich hope to confirm an interim appointment by the weekend, when City's Women travel to face Chesham United as they continue their pursuit of Wimbledon for promotion. They sit six points behind the leaders with two games in hand.

It's understood that sporting director Ben Knapper was consulted in the decision led by general manager Flo Allen - confirming at last November's AGM that the development and growth of the women’s side was part of his remit as sporting director.

Herdman was absent as the Canaries recorded a 7-0 victory over Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers in the Norfolk Women's County Cup earlier this month. Assistant boss Ethan Scott stood in on that occasion.

Part of Herdman's remit has also been to lead the UEA’s women’s football programme, with Norwich announcing a partnership with the university last summer.

City are set to face QPR Women at Carrow Road on March 24, having sold over 3,000 tickets for the encounter. They also have a County Cup semi final against Mulbarton at the Nest next month.

In a club statement released on Tuesday evening, City said via their official channels: 'Following ongoing discussions with the club over the head coach role and its wider responsibilities a decision has been made to make a change at this stage.

'The Canaries currently sit in second position in the Division One South East table, with the club now working to appoint an interim replacement until the end of the season.

'Everybody at Norwich City would like to place on record its thanks to Martin for his work during his time at the club.'
