London Seaward 1 Norwich City Women 2

Norwich City moved into second place in the Women’s National League Division One South East with an important away victory over London Seaward.

After a very lively opening 15 minutes, Ellie Smith netted for the third successive game to fire City in front. The attacking midfielder latched onto a stray Seaward pass before jinking her way into the box and poking the ball past goalkeeper Tia Ginn.

The direction of the very strong wind was against City for the entirety of the first half but this did not prevent them from creating a number of good chances. They looked particularly threatening down their right flank, which is where their second goal was crafted, with Rachel Lawrence’s cross headed home by Natasha Snelling.

On the stroke of half-time, striker Katherine Long collected the ball outside the City box and found the top corner of Sarah Quantrill’s goal to bring Seaward back into the contest.

However, a comeback never felt likely in the second half, with City limiting the hosts to very little to register their first win on the road since October.

Norwich City: Quantrill, Larkins (c), Flye, Strauss, Parker, Knights, Morran, Lawrence, Smith, Kennard, Snelling. Subs: Todd, Hailes, Cook, Croft, Pernet.
