A quick second half double helped Norwich City progress into the fourth round of the Norfolk Senior Cup, beating Dereham Town 2-1 at Aldiss Park.

Winger Joe Duffy and striker Dan Ogwuru struck six minutes inside the second half to secure their route into the next round.

Robbie Sweeney’s late consolation made for a nervy few minutes, but Norwich held on to secure the victory.

Alan Neilson rotated his squad for the clash at Aldiss Park - Ken Aboh and Pedro Lima were named on the bench. Under 18s Uriah Djedje and Errol Mundle-Smith started.

Ex-City captain Grant Holt made his debut for the Magpies and nearly teed up Bradley Spooner early on to open the scoring.

Holt nearly opened the scoring himself on nine minutes, connecting with Spooner’s corner but was unable to find the target from close range.

A uneventful first half saw Norwich dominate possession but struggle to convert that into goal-scoring opportunities.

City did take the lead shortly after the interval, with Duffy rising to head home a free kick from the right.

Ogwuru, who joined Norwich from Manchester City last summer, tapped home to double the visitors advantage on 51 minutes after a wonderful cross from half time substitute Gabriel Forsyth.

A slick move saw Harry Pitcher cut the ball back to Jordan Buttle on the hour mark, but Ellis Craven made a smart stop from the winger on the 61st minute.

Finlay Welch went close to adding a third for Norwich in the 70th minute, flashing a shot just wide of Tom Coombe’s far post. Mundle-Smith saw his shot after a mazy run deflected wide just minutes before.

Dereham pulled back a late consolation when Robbie Sweeney poked the ball past Craven in 90 minutes after the City goalkeeper made a smart stop from a curling free kick.

Norwich held out a flurry of late set-pieces to secure the victory.
