Highly-rated academy talent Elliot Myles has put pen to paper on his first professional contract at Norwich City.

The Canaries have warded off Premier League interest to secure the long-term future of Myles, who has impressed for the club's under-18s this season as well as featuring for Alan Neilson's under-21s.

Myles only turned 17 on Saturday, but has been a consistent source of goals for Greg Crane's struggling development side during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring five goals and assisting twice in seven games despite his age group languishing at the bottom of the under-18 Premier League.

The Welsh under-17 international also featured regularly last season, scoring five times and claiming two assists in 14 games.

"I feel overwhelmed," he of the new contract. "It's good to be rated by the club and how highly they think of me. I appreciate everything they've done for me so far.

"I'm always grateful for the opportunity. There's things that you can't take for granted, especially at a club like this. Especially as I've been here since I was 14, with all the chances they've given me. That shows the trust and belief they have in me.

"I feel like I've started off well. I feel like I've progressed this season, playing with the Under-21s. I think quicker now, with challenges in each game. I scored my first goal for the Under-21s against Charlton recently, and there's more to come."

It's hoped the forward can continue the Norfolk club's impressive production line of exciting young talent, with the likes of Todd Cantwell, Adam Idah and Max Aarons all emerging from the Colney academy ranks in recent years.

Myles sees new fan favourite Jonathan Rowe as a current inspiration, however, praising the 20-year-old when asked who he looks up to by club channels.

"I'd probably say Jonny Rowe," he said. "He's one of the most recent ones, and he's a player with a similar style to me. He's proven that anything is possible.

"This season, I'd love to become a regular starter for the Under-21s, but it's all about progressing. I'd also love to train with the first-team, too."
