Norwich City midfielder Adam Forshaw has completed his move to Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle.

The 32-year-old joins the Devon-based club on a free transfer after agreeing to cut his contract short at Carrow Road, which was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Forshaw made just six league appearances for Norwich after joining last summer following the expiration of his contract at Leeds United. His last Championship outing came as a substitute in October's 3-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Norwich were open to allowing the experienced midfielder to leave providing he could find a new destination this month. Plymouth have added him to their squad as they continue their quest for Championship survival.

Forshaw's pre-existing relationship with Argyle's director of football Neil Dewsnip was understood to be a key factor in the deal. The pair worked together at Everton, when the Plymouth chief was under-18s manager.

Norwich signed Forshaw as cover for midfield duo Gabriel Sara and Kenny McLean in the summer, but he failed to nail down a regular spot in David Wagner's plans during his time at Carrow Road, with form and injury both factors.

It was a deal that failed to benefit either party, with Forshaw failing to make the last five matchday squads in the Championship. Illness has also ruled him out of recent matches.

City's sporting director Ben Knapper made his desire to lower the age profile of the squad at the AGM held in December. Forshaw's departure is a step towards achieving that target in the long run.

He becomes Plymouth's fifth January signing following that of loan trio Ashley Phillips, Darko Gyabi and Alfie Devine, as well as free agent Matty Sorinola.

New boss Ian Foster is looking to improve the squad after losing key players Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle. Argyle lost Steven Schumacher to Stoke City last month.

The midfielder is set to make his debut for Argyle in their Championship clash with Cardiff at Home Park on Saturday.
