Here is Samuel Seaman's verdict on Norwich City, who recovered from a poor first half showing to win 3-1 against Bristol Rovers.

George Long

Struggled to make his presence felt early on, but recovered with some fine saves as has become his trademark in cup games. The most notable of those was a crucial stop to deny Chris Martin at 2-1, when the former Canary looked sure to level things from eight yards out.

Will struggle to displace player of the season contender Angus Gunn, but has proved a reliable deputy when called upon in cup competitions. 7

Jack Stacey

Consistently impressive in contrast with his team-mates, snuffing out any risk of danger down the Norwich right and helping David Wagner's side play out from the back with strong technical ability.

One mazy run from the edge of his own box to the halfway line under pressure from several Rovers defenders. Not much end product in the final third, but didn't have much opportunity to find it. 7

Danny Batth

A contribution that summed up his time in a Norwich shirt so far. Struggled to hold off the early onslaught from the fervent hosts, and was brought off midway through the first half with injury.

Wagner confirmed post-match that he'd sustained a hamstring issue. 5

Ben Gibson

Relied upon often to advance the ball from the back, and did it too slowly and considerately in the first half. Improved that side of his game in the second period, as he did his defensive application.

Still looks like someone getting back up to speed after struggling with injury and unavailability in recent weeks, but not the worst of City's current crop. 6

Sam McCallum

Epitomised his side's performance with a very disappointing 45 minutes followed by a much-improved ending to the game.

Good run and effort to curl onto the post before Gabriel Sara's equaliser, although there was a hint of offside as he bore down on goal. Made a number of essential clearances as home players wound up for simple finishes. 7

Kenny McLean

Looked frustrated by the lack of movement in front of him at times, but was reliable in possession and marshalled the midfield well. Coping well with regular shifts in the role he's being asked to play.

Scored a fine goal to seal the win for the visitors, showing technique that maybe should have resulted in more attacking contributions this season. 8

Jacob Sorensen

A rusty return to starting action that got better as time went on. Moved back into central defence from his natural midfield position after Batth's injury, but did well at centre-back and looked more comfortable facing the play.

Could be an asset for the rest of the season and will hope to be to earn a new contract, but will need some time to gain match fitness based on this evidence. 6

Jonathan Rowe

The driving force that got City out of a dark place once again. His tricky runs were a menace to the home defence, and they payed off when he was brought down for a penalty in the 59th minute.

Rovers fans were audibly relived when Wagner withdrew him midway through the second period, and it was clear to see why. A talent far above the level of this game. 8

Gabriel Sara

More effective in an advanced position, and there was danger in the way he probed the edge of the Rovers box. That was clear when he scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute, tapping in from an area he'd have been unlikely to inhabit in his regular position.

A much-needed goal contribution after nine games out of the limelight, and one, Norwich fans will hope, to give him the confidence he needs to kick on again. A good performance. 7

Onel Hernandez

Showed plenty of the endeavour that earned him a left-footed shot early on, and threatened the Gas with his speed on the break. Didn't have the opportunity to make much tangible difference, but did nearly as much as he could. 6

Adam Idah

Scored the vital penalty in the 59th minute, but even that was in doubt for a moment when Matt Cox got a hand to it.

Drove a shot straight at the Pirates stopper when through on goal shortly thereafter, and exposed his technical deficiencies time and again when found in good positions. Another tally in the goal column, but few other positive signs. 5

SUBSTITUTES

Marcelino Nunez (on for Batth, 27)

Buzzed around and helped add purpose to a side lacking it throughout the first half. Quality and composure on the counter, but would have liked to be more involved.

Exposed a world where him, McLean and Sara can feature. It looked an exciting one. 7

Borja Sainz (on for Hernandez, 64)

Earned some free-kicks and have the home faithful a pantomime villain, but didn’t contribute much in an offensive sense. Added some energy. 6

Christian Fassnacht (on for Rowe, 64)

Built on his goal in last Friday's win over Hull with a tidy assist for McLean's match sealer, but lost the ball too often. Worked hard defensively. 6

Ashley Barnes (on for Idah, 64)

Offered a presence in the box and showed good movement to find himself in positions to shoot. Squandered his two best chances, however, to the home fans’ delight. 6

Kellen Fisher (on for Stacey, 90+3) N/A
