David Wagner insisted Norwich City will be ready for a derby duel at Ipswich, after warming up with a 3-1 Championship win against Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road on Wednesday night.

The Canaries head to their high-flying East Anglian rivals on Saturday lunchtime looking to maintain their superiority over the neighbours, which dates back to 2010.

Borja Sainz's stunning early strike and second half goals from Ashley Barnes and Jon Rowe sealed a solid victory over the Owls.

Wagner spoke exclusively to the Pinkun on Wednesday night.

Derby day

Now we can speak about it. No problems. What should I say. It’s derby time so I played a few derbies in my time as a manager.

This is my first one in England and we are looking forward to it. Unfortunately we didn't play yesterday, we played today, but it doesn't count. It is derby time.

First of all, big credit to their season so far.

They deserved exactly where they are. But the truth is, as well, as everybody knows, in a derby everything that went before or comes after doesn't count. It doesn't count in which league you are, in which position you are, it doesn't count how recent results have gone.

Maybe it gives you a little bit of a better feeling, but everybody who played derbies knows this doesn't count when it's derby time.

Owls win

We started very well, the boys did a lot of things good on the front foot. We created opportunities, scored a wonderful goal and then unfortunately, they didn't do it the easy way. We were able to extend the lead 2-0 or 3-0 and that would have made for a much more relaxed evening than it was.

We struggled on set plays. We knew this before the game that the team we selected might struggle, But we also knew the team we picked can create opportunities, if we play to our pattern and if we move the ball and be fluid. And I think this is what we did well.

What really satisfied me is if you don't do it the easy way then you have to be open to do it the hard way. To keep going, keep believing, keep pushing, keep the tempo high.
