Here is Connor’s verdict on David Wagner’s Norwich City, who laboured to a 1-0 home victory over Championship strugglers QPR on Saturday.

• George Long             5

First clean sheet for the club since arriving from Millwall in a game where he wasn't called into action often.

Made a simple catch from Ilias Chair's curling effort from the edge of the area early on. Routine stop to his right to deny Osman Kakay's driven effort before the break. One scary moment when he parried Kenneth Paal's shot, but didn't prove costly.

• Jack Stacey             7

City's starman on this occasion - the 27-year-old injected energy and provided a constant outlet during a tireless outing at Carrow Road.

An early probing cross in the 11th minute was just too high for Ashley Barnes to meet with his head. Beyond the only goal, went closest to scoring for Norwich after guiding Kenny McLean's lofted cross over Asmir Begovic but saw his effort cleared off the line by Steve Cook.

Caused Paal problems throughout the afternoon and got his team up the pitch. This was a reminder of his attacking capabilities - highlighted in the 75th minute when he intercepted Jack Colback's pass and surged forward.

A difficult defensive task in keeping Chair quiet - had to rely on the dark arts at times to limit his output. Another good response to Wagner's decision to drop him against Cardiff.

• Shane Duffy          6

A surprise recall to the heart of defence after missing Norwich's trip to Cardiff through a yellow card suspension. Will be grateful to mark the occasion with a long-awaited clean sheet - the first since their 2-0 win over Birmingham in September.

The Irishman couldn’t hide his frustration at failing to hit the target with a header from Gabby Sara’s corner on the 12th minute.

Two crucial defensive interventions added to his performance - first to flick Taylor Dixon-Bonner's cross over the bar in the first half and then stabbing the ball clear after Steve Cook's header nearly sent Lyndon Dykes through.

• Danny Batth                    6

Another dominant aerial display against Scotland international Dykes and performed the basics superbly in another composed defensive showing.

His distribution requires work and had one scary moment in the second half after a miscommunication with Long - but did enough to keep himself in the central defensive conversation moving forward.

• Dimitris Giannoulis        6

Similarly to his right-sided counterpart, the Greek offered Norwich a thrust going forward and delivered a series of threatening crosses throughout the contest.

One questionable moment defensively when a lapse in concentration nearly allowed Kakay a cross but Giannoulis recovered well to block behind. The pair were later involved in a melee in front of the dugouts. Bypassed by Chair late on when he raced in behind, only for Long to turn his effort wide.

On the receiving end of a strong tackle from ex-Ipswich midfielder Andre Dozzell late on that left him on the deck.

• Kenny McLean      7

Quickly emerging as Norwich City's Mr Consistent this season amid some underpar individual and collective performances around him. Barring one rogue pass in the first half - this was a positive performance from the captain.

Unlucky not to record an assist when he picked out Stacey with a cross inside the opening 15 minutes. Showed the quality of his passing range throughout the contest.

Constantly showing for a ball in a Norwich side looking short on confidence in possession. If only for a few more like him.

• Gabby Sara                7

Produced the only moment of real quality in the contest when picking out Hwang over the top - a lovely pinpoint pass with plenty of backspin that the Brazilian has made a habit of during his time in Norfolk.

Sixth assist of the season. Fastest Norwich player to reach that milestone  since 2010 ahead of both Wes Hoolahan and Emi Buendia.

Couple of cheap concessions in the first half, notably to Dixon-Bonner on 15 minutes which led to Chair firing over. Booking leaves him one from suspension.

• Christian Fassnacht             5

This outing didn't have the same drama as his 30th birthday celebrations in South Wales - the Swiss international was on the periphery of the contest for large portions.

Some importance support work to help Stacey marshall the lively Chair at points. Intelligent work off the ball helped provide his right back with space on the outside during attacking phases.

• Ashley Barnes          5

Little to shout about on his return from injury. Struggled to get into the contest but was an outlet for Norwich when forced to go more direct.

A push on Cook in the box from Giannoulis' cross went punished and he was booked late on for a scuffle. Wagner praised his contribution to help drag the result over the line.

• Onel Hernandez     5

Lots of huffing and puffing, but little in the way of end product for the Cuban winger. An early direct run saw him move into a promising position but he failed to find the on-rushing Fassnacht on the right.

Frustrated regularly by Paal - who remained tight on him in wide areas to prevent him from turning. He will need to show more to nail down a starting berth in the coming weeks.

• Hwang Ui-Jo                   7

Responded to a week of personal controversy with a goal - caressed Sara's pass out of the sky before slotting coolly past the experienced Asmir Begovic. Started his run by moving deep and then sprung behind Jimmy Dunne.

Nearly repeated the trick when receiving the ball on the left from McLean on the 42nd minute but saw his attempted effort blocked by Cook.

Tireless effort off the ball in pressing QPR in possession - had visibly emptied the tank just before his substitution for Idah on the hour mark.

Subs

•  Adam Idah (for Hwang, 63)                6

Bright cameo and got Norwich up the pitch as they sought to see out the contest - but little to discuss in the way of goalscoring chances.

• Borja Sainz (for Hernandez, 78)                 5

Nearly caught holding onto possession for too long inside his own half by Colback late on.

• Sam McCallum (for Fassnacht, 90+4)                N/A
