Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe has pulled out of the England U21 squad due to an injury concern.

The winger, who was set to make his third appearance for the Young Lions, won't travel to Serbia or feature in their Euro qualifier against Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

It's believed Rowe has suffered an ankle injury whilst training with Lee Carsley's men and is set for further assessment once he returns to Colney.

Norwich now face an anxious wait on the extent of his injury ahead of their Championship return against QPR next weekend.

Rowe posted a picture on his Instagram late on Monday night that read 'back soon', raising concerns amongst the Norwich fanbase.

Any injury lay-off would serve as a major blow to the Canaries - with Rowe currently their top goal scorer in the Championship, having burst onto the scene against Hull on the opening day of the campaign. The youngster has netted on eight occasions in all competitions.

In a statement, the FA said: 'Norwich City forward and Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle will play no part in England MU21s' upcoming 2025 Uefa U21 Euro qualifiers against Serbia and Northern Ireland, with both players returning to their respective clubs for further assessment.'

Rowe will now return to City's Colney base for further assessment - with head coach David Wagner likely to provide an update at his next press conference.

It comes at a time when Norwich's injury issues were looking to be easing - with goalkeeper Angus Gunn and experienced striker Ashley Barnes set for a return to the squad after the break.

Defender Ben Gibson is set to be sidelined until Christmas with a metatarsal injury whilst Grant Hanley suffered a setback to his recovery after tweaking his hamstring. Midfielder Adam Forshaw is also recovering from a knock that could keep unavailable until next month.

Josh Sargent remains out and unavailable until likely the New Year with an ankle injury he sustained in City's 4-0 victory over Huddersfield in August. Norwich will be praying Rowe's diagnosis is less serious.

Norwich have Borja Sainz, Christian Fassnacht, Onel Hernandez, Tony Springett and Przemyslaw Placheta available as their other wide options.
