Here is Paddy’s verdict on David Wagner’s Norwich City, who were two down inside 16 minutes in another limp Carrow Road offering against Blackburn.

• George Long             4

No protection afforded for all three Blackburn goals. Home fans were not having the ‘provocation’ tactic of rolling his foot over the ball to try and entice Rovers out to press.

• Jack Stacey                4

Back in the side for Kellen Fisher. Caught up the pitch for Blackburn’s second goal. Not able to apply enough pressure on the switch of play for the third. Glimpses of his front foot attacking instincts in that first half. One cross dropped to the back post for Marcelino Nunez ended with a Jon Rowe snapshot. Key block on Andrew Moran.

Excellent lob over his marker in the 34th minute, and then the spot for Onel Hernandez to screw wide. Wasteful on two further occasions in the final third when in good crossing positions. Another key intervention to deny Moran a shooting opportunity prior to the interval.

• Jaden Warner                           5

His head must have been spinning on his league debut after 15 minutes or so. No protection from the experienced Shane Duffy alongside him. Witness the first and second goals when he was trying to get across and close the door on both Tyrhys Dolan, and then Sammie Szmodics.

Looked composed on the ball and progressive in his passing. Bottled up Szmodics later in the first half to earn a round of applause from home fans. Beaten by the dancing feet of Dolan in the 19th minute, but Jack Stacey got a block on Moran.

• Shane Duffy              3

Fortunate to retain his place after an error-riddled Sunderland display. Now suspended for Cardiff after a yellow card for a crunching challenge on Dolan that smacked of frustration shortly after the interval.

Sliding interception unable to cut out Joe Rankin-Costello’s pass for the opener. Then got dragged into midfield, and played around for the Szmodics’ slot. Did time his challenge on Callum Brittain with Blackburn sensing a third inside the opening half an hour.

• Dimi Giannoulis      4

Failed to sense the danger when Moran volleyed a ball back across the area for Szmodics to slot from a narrowing angle at the far post. Was on the overlap prior to the interval in a promising position but unable to control Kenny McLean’s pass.

Then similarly failed to gather Gabby Sara’s teasing diagonal pass, as he burst into the Rovers’ penalty area.

• Kenny McLean ©                  4

Key intervention with Norwich listing on the edge of their area shortly after shipping a second. Linked with Sara to progress the ball for Rowe in a move that ended with a Stacey miscue.

Slaloming run through the middle of the park took him past three, but Giannoulis failed to control. Near post headed flick directed a corner between Rowe and Borja Sainz.

• Gabby Sara                4

Got a goal for persistence two minutes into added on time when he lashed home from Przemyslaw Placheta’s cross shot. But poor defensively for all three Blackburn goals. Although at least you could argue the Brazilian had sensed the danger on the third to track the run of Moran.

For the first Dolan ran in behind and the second Dolan’s quick feet lost him before Moran switched the play for Szmodics. As always, much better going the other way. Raking pick for Hwang Ui-Jo and then a wonderfully precise clip for Giannoulis that neither team mate could turn into a shooting chance.

Slashed wide on the half-volley from a Sainz deflection in the 72nd minute. Then another goalbound effort hit Brittain and flew wide.

• Jon Rowe    4

None of the end product he has served up throughout Norwich’s inconsistent season. When he picked up the ball in deeper areas Rovers quickly got men around him. Early snapshot blocked from an overlapping Stacey run.

Took what looked a painful whack helping the ball around the corner for Stacey. Did superbly to halt a Blackburn counter at source, and then carve a pass through for Nunez, who had a shot blocked.

• Marcelino Nunez         4

When Blackburn went down to 10 men the spaces opened up and he became more prominent, albeit without the punch to profit in the final third. Let flew two minutes in from 25 yards. Went for a chip in the 32nd minute that was easily collected by Leopold Wahlstedt. Attacked a Stacey cross but his header looped at the keeper.

Shot blocked just past the hour mark, following Rowe’s turnover work. Lashed a half-volley wide from the edge of the area, and then fired over from the same range in the closing stages.

• Onel Hernandez    4

Best sighter for Norwich before the interval, when he whipped Stacey’s cross just beyond the far post from 16 yards. Teed up Nunez in the opening seconds. Was hauled down by Scott Wharton for the incident that earned the Blackburn player a red card.

• Hwang Ui-Jo                       4

A glimpse or two of his close control and shooting inside the area but lightweight. Shifted the ball out of his feet in the 31st minute to test Wahlstedt at full stretch. Curled over from the edge when Sara’s initial shot rebounded to him.

Tidy work in stoppage time to move the ball onto his left, and clip a low shot through a number of legs Wahlstedt got down sharply to smother.

Subs

• Przemyslaw Placheta (for Giannoulis, 60)               6

Injected some thrust and dynamism down the left with a steady stream of deliveries. Stood up the most inviting cross for Christian Fassnacht to attack, which produced a flying stop from the Rovers’ keeper. Through again in the 92nd minute with a strike Wahlstedt could only parry out to the late-arriving Sara to slot.

• Kellen Fisher (for Stacey, 60)            4

Rose above his marker at the far post in the 68th minute but no takers from team mates as the ball dropped invitingly in the area.

• Christian Fassnacht (for Duffy, 60)                4

Must have thought he had scored when he pinned his man but Wahlstedt flew to his left to claw out his header.

• Borja Sainz (for Hernandez, 60)      4

Cut inside and let fly in the 72nd minute, before the shot was deflected for Sara to try his luck.
