A win over Norwich City would be a sign of progress for Coventry, boss Mark Robins has said.

The Sky Blues haven't recorded a victory against Norwich since 2009 but are hoping to retain their unbeaten start at home as they welcome David Wagner's side to the CBS Arena on Saturday.

Robins is contending with the loss of key players Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres but is seeing a much-changed side beginning to gel - they head into Saturday's game with back-to-back victories against QPR and Blackburn.

The Coventry boss, who played for City during his playing days, hasn't enjoyed a positive record against Norwich in recent years and believes a positive performance would be a sign of their Championship progress.

“Norwich is a team that we've not done brilliantly against by any stretch, in fact, we've been really poor against them," Robins said at his pre-match press conference.

“I think we've only picked a point and that was in Covid when there were no crowds, and we drew 1-1 at Carrow Road.

“This is an opportunity without a shadow of a doubt, and they see it the same, so can we do better against them than we've done in recent games in recent seasons.”

Norwich are hoping to halt a dismal recent away record that has seen them lose four games on the spin away from home. Coventry haven't been beaten at the home since a 4-0 defeat to Stoke in April.

Robins is not taking the formbook for granted and has challenged his team to put their best foot forward as they prepare to welcome City to the Midlands.

“They've lost four games away from home, the last four games away from home, including one at Fulham and they’ll be disappointed I think in those games, but they're a good side and they’re full of good players," Robins said.

“There are no doubt things have changed a little bit, Teemu Pukki has left, and they've got some injuries. Josh Sargent's injured, they've got some really good players missing but so has everybody and you've got to try and cope with that.

“Grant Hanley is another one, but they've signed experienced players that know their way out of the league, they've played at higher levels, and they've got some real talent in the squad again.

“We have to be at our best really to get something from the game and we might be our best and it still might not be quite enough, but my only concern is just making sure that we've got enough energy on the pitch at all times.”
