Norwich City have breathed a sigh of relief after David Wagner ruled that Borja Sainz' injury was 'not serious'.
The Spanish winger caused concern after limping out of under-21 duty following a nasty tackle that impacted his ankle - the same one that has kept him sidelined since his arrival at the club.
Sainz was the subject of robust treatment during the U21s 2-1 victory over West Brom and eventually only lasted 24 minutes of Sunday's encounter.
Whilst the injury means he will be a doubt for Wednesday's long trip to Swansea, Norwich will be without Sainz for days rather than weeks.
"He got a knock on his ankle. Luckily, it is not a serious injury but it's quite painful and a little bit swollen," Wagner said at Monday's press conference.
"We will see if he can make it for the Swansea game. It isn't a serious injury and it shouldn't take too long for him to come back. He will be back in training soon.
"It is all about how quickly it settles down, we will make investigations. He was a little bit anxious in the situation because it was not the best tackle in an early period of the game. Then he felt pain and it looks like he has got a heavy knock on his ankle.
"Now we have to assess him and see how many days it will take for him to return."
Sainz' profile is likely to make him susceptible to rough treatment from the opposition, as he has found in his opening outings both in the youth side and for the first team.
Wagner is expecting him to take that in his stride as Norwich continue with their cautious approach to building up his fitness.
"He is a guy who takes it all on the chin. We have seen it yesterday as well - he continued but after the second one, it got quite difficult for him," City's boss said.
"I was quite happy with the decision not to continue because it could have swollen more. It is part of English football and the game, especially for a mobile winger with good feet. Sometimes this happens. He is quite robust.
"Everyone else is healthy. Danny (Batth) played yesterday but he has trained today and has recovered well."
