Dimi Giannoulis was pleased to repay the faith of Norwich City boss David Wagner in their 2-0 victory over Birmingham on Saturday.
Despite their 6-2 thrashing against Plymouth last weekend, Wagner made only one change to his starting side, keeping faith with the same back five that were brutally exposed at Home Park.
City's defence responded to that porous display by keeping a clean sheet and possessing a much better structure in a much-improved Carrow Road performance.
After a week of internal discussions and work on the training pitch, Giannoulis is convinced the defensive unit now know what they need to do to prevent another Plymouth-like horrorshow.
"It was a show of confidence," Giannoulis accepted. "It's football. Sometimes you lose but the last game was not great. It was a game where everything went wrong.
"We stuck to our plan today and we have been rewarded with a win.
"The rest defence was more structured. We had moments last week that were not structured - that's why we conceded so many goals. We know now exactly what to do but we lost our heads after the first two goals.
"We're in a good spot right now. We have so many good players and we're pleased with the win."
Goals from Gabriel Sara, who headed home from Giannoulis' cross, and Jon Rowe ensured the three points for Norwich to halt a poor run of form.
Beating Birmingham was the perfect tonic after a bruising week, with Giannoulis delighted to repay the supporters.
"It was really important to win today because the last defeat in the league was embarrassing so we had to show something. We did, I think," he said.
"It was a good performance, a good result and a clean sheet. If you don't concede then at some point you are going to score. We have so much quality up-front.
"The clean sheet was so important to us. We knew we needed to be patient and not to chase every ball, we were progressive in the second half and that helped us get the three points.
"We know the fans always support us so we had to give them something to be happy for the next few days. They want the best for the team and we do as well."
