Norwich City are hoping to provide a Championship response to last week's defeat to Plymouth as they welcome Birmingham to Carrow Road this afternoon.

A 6-2 defeat at Home Park left the City supporters bemused and concerned - with Plymouth cutting through Norwich at will. The hope is that lessons have been learned and David Wagner's side can return to winning way this afternoon.

Wagner is hopeful that a midweek Carabao Cup third round defeat to Fulham marked the first step of the correction process, but it will be in the Championship where City's progress is ultimately judged.

The Canaries are still without striking duo Josh Sargent and Ashley Barnes, with Adam Idah expected to get another opportunity as the starting option this afternoon.

Marcelino Nunez is expected to return to training at the end of next week whilst Jacob Sorensen continues to build up his fitness after a lengthy absence caused by a groin injury.

Borja Sainz will boost City's ranks by being involved in the matchday squad but Wagner faces a late call on Angus Gunn's fitness after an injection on his shoulder earlier in the week. George Long, who was suffering with a stomach bug, is fit.

Sainz marked his debut with a goal but Norwich are adopting a cautious approach to his fitness after a long spell on the sidelines.

This fixture kickstarts a hectic week for City involving two away games at Swansea and Coventry to come in the week.

Birmingham are without a win in September and have seen a positive start derailed by injuries. John Eustace's side are without a win since beating Plymouth 2-1 at the end of August.

Max Buchanan (ankle), Keshi Anderson (hamstring), Ethan Laird (hamstring), George Hall (hamstring), Tyler Roberts (calf) and Alfie Chang (ACL) are all sidelined.

Birmingham are without a win at Carrow Road since 2002, when Stern John's penalty secured a 1-0 win for the Blues.
