Norwich City Women 6
Haywards Heath Town 1

Norwich City secured their first home victory of the season with a brilliant display of attacking football at The Nest.

Martin Herdman’s side did not give their lowly opponents a single moment to settle into the game, with Megan Todd powering home a penalty after only four minutes.

City’s starting front four linked up impressively throughout the first period, with Natasha Snelling and Ellie Smith each finding the net before the half hour mark.

The hosts then extended their lead further as Rachel Lawrence scored her first two goals for the club either side of half-time, pouncing on the loose ball on both occasions. However, the winger missed a terrific chance to secure her hat-trick when she had a penalty saved before the hour.

Haywards Heath captain Sophie Phelps wiped out Sarah Quantrill’s clean sheet in the 61st minute, but City were not content to finish with a four-goal winning margin. In the latter stages, Lawrence curled home expertly from the edge of the visitors’ box to make up for her penalty miss and take home the matchball.
