Norwich City duo Shane Duffy and Adam Idah both started as the Republic of Ireland Lost 2-0 to France in Euro 2024 qualifying.
Duffy was playing his first game for the Boys in Green since November last year, but coped well with former Chelsea man Olivier Giroud on his 56th senior international outing.
Idah was given the opportunity to impress up front after Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson was ruled out with injury, but struggled to find involvement before being substituted for Will Keane in the 68th minute.
Marcus Thuram and Aurelien Tchouameni scored the decisive goals either side of half time, continuing their 100pc record in qualifying.
The loss means Ireland remain on three points after four group games, with only one win over minnows Gibraltar.
Elsewhere in Group B, fellow Canary Dimitris Giannoulis played 35 minutes for Greece as they were beaten 3-0 by the Netherlands. Liverpool full-back Kostas Tsimikas was preferred to the 27-year-old as the Greeks were leapfrogged into second place, but he replaced Lazaros Rota in the 69th minute.
Deadline day signing Hwang Ui Jo was also in action as his South Korea side drew 0-0 with Wales in Cardiff. He started on the bench but replaced Cho Gue-Sung after 74 minutes.
Kenny McLean and Angus Gunn could feature for Scotland tomorrow evening as they face Cyprus in Group A, while Marcelino Nunez' Chile meet Uruguay in friendly action at midnight.
