Norwich City boss David Wagner confirmed Josh Sargent will be sidelined for 'months' after injuring ankle ligaments at Huddersfield.
Sargent is scheduled to visit a specialist later this week to decide whether he needs surgery after tumbling in the act of opening the scoring in the 4-0 Championship win at the Terriers.
Wagner confirmed his key striker's lay-off after the Canaries' 1-0 League Cup win at Bristol City on Tuesday.
Norwich have already been linked with attacking reinforcements in Kasey Palmer and Jan Kuchta, ahead of Friday's transfer deadline, but Wagner reiterated he is happy with the attacking personnel already in the building.
"We are still waiting to have a clear picture. But what is sure it's a serious injury," said the German. "So we speak more about months than weeks. We have to make a further assessment with him.
"He sees a further consultant and I think we have a clearer picture at the end of the week to know how many months and if he needs surgery, but it's a serious injury. Which is what we expected. It is ankle ligaments.
"To be fair, I think after this performance we've seen we have a good squad and we have a reliable squad, even if the squad is not huge in terms of numbers. We had some young, inexperienced players and we were competitive.
"But at the end of the day while the transfer window is open I will not deny anything. But I feel we have a good squad."
