David Wagner has no plans for a late transfer window striker move after Josh Sargent’s ankle injury in the 4-0 Championship romp at Huddersfield.

Sargent twisted his right ankle in the act of scoring the opener at the John Smith’s, and was immediately substituted before re-appearing at the final whistle with his lower leg in a protective boot.

Wagner fears a ‘serious’ injury, with the American set for further scans to extent the full extent of a potential lay-off.

But Ashley Barnes and Adam Idah both notched against the Terriers, and the City chief is not looking to the market between now and deadline night.

“I don't think so. I think we are covered in this area quite well,” he said. “You’ve seen Adam in this game. He has done fantastic. Ashley is in top form. Liam (Gibbs) can play in that area of the pitch, like Nacho (Marcelino Nunez) and (Przemyslaw) Placheta. We are quite well covered. Obviously. Josh is a top, top player for us.

"He is in top form as well and this hurts if we will miss him for a longer period. But this happens to every team. Now we have to look, assess him, and hopefully it isn't super serious, or not as serious as it looks like.

"But I don't think that we have to be busy in this transfer window because of this injury.

“It's quite swollen. It looks like a serious ankle injury. We have to assess it further. We need a follow up scan, for sure, and then we know more in the next upcoming days how serious it is.

"I've seen the goal back and when he scored he got the push (from the keeper) and this is when he landed and twisted his ankle.

“His goal showed the character and hunger within the whole group, to show that desire to go into areas where you might get hurt.”

The Pink Un: Kenny McLean has a consoling word for the injured Josh Sargent

Jon Rowe’s fifth goal in five games underlined City have firepower from a number of areas.

“To score five in five speaks for itself, doesn't it? But what counts for me is that his performance was good,” said Wagner. “He worked for the team defensively very hard, he closed the gaps and he was a threat apart from the goal.

"Five in five is special and it's great for him and super great for us obviously as well that we have players who can score, and the good thing is we have more than only him.

“A second goal for Barnesy, a second for Adam, a third for Josh. What is important for me is that our performance was right, and that we scored four more goals and had our first clean sheet in the Championship makes it even greater.”
