Tim Krul has completed his move from Norwich City to Premier League Luton Town.

The Canaries have confirmed the exit of the double title-winning Dutch international keeper.

The 35-year-old underwent the first part of a medical on Tuesday after saying his goodbyes to City team mates and staff at Colney, before completing the formalities of the move in the past 24 hours.

Norwich are expected to move swiftly to bring in Millwall's George Long as a replacement for Krul, who was in the final year of his Carrow Road deal.

Young Scottish goalkeeper Jon McCracken has also been recalled from his loan spell at Dundee to allow new goalkeeping coach Paul Clements the opportunity to assess the 22-year-old.

McCracken was on the bench for Wednesday's 1-0 Carabao Cup win at QPR.

Top flight new boys Luton were in the market for experienced goalkeeping options to challenge Thomas Kaminski and reportedly bid for Birmingham City's ex-Canaries' stopper John Ruddy.

"The story of Luton Town speaks for itself, the last nine years has been an amazing journey and I’m excited to join that journey," Krul told the Hatters' official site. "It’s been a whirlwind for the club; I spoke to Carlton Morris and he spoke very highly about what’s happening at this club.

“I know Thomas Kaminski as well, it’s good to speak a bit of Dutch Flemish to him. It’s so important to have competition for places, if you look at the Premier League teams, they have lots of competition for spots and it should be no different here.”

Town boss Rob Edwards feels Krul's experience will be invaluable for the newly-promoted club.

“Tim’s a leader and a top goalkeeper who is still very and ambitious and very hungry. He wants to play," he said.

“It’s great to have someone of his level in the group with that ambition and to be that driven, and it’s going to add great competition to the goalkeeper department, which is what we’ve wanted.

“I’m really pleased because he’s a good person, with great experience of this level which is important for us. Recently we’ve brought in some good experience and Tim certainly gives us that as well as being a quality goalkeeper and a leader.

“I’ve said how essential the position is, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring in two quality goalkeepers to add real competition.

“He’s a great guy, a proper bloke, who has an air of confidence, a good swagger and a belief about his ability, because he’s been there and done it. He’s played in the World Cup, has experience in the Premier League. He’s the 10th signing and I’m delighted with every single one of them.”

Krul was a huge hit in a five-year stint at Norwich after arriving on a free transfer. The Dutch international won the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy in 2019/20 and was a key figure in the squads who lifted two Championship titles under Daniel Farke.

The ex-Newcastle United and Brighton keeper returns to the Premier League having made 169 appearances for Norwich, with 65 arriving in the top-flight.

City sporting director, Stuart Webber, led the tributes to the departing Dutchman.

“Tim has been an outstanding servant for Norwich City. He has been a top class goalkeeper and leader during his time with the club," Webber told his club's official site.

“He has played a key role in developing the right culture at our club, and was instrumental in our two Championship title-winning seasons, with his form recognised in him winning the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy as our player-of-the-season for 2019/20.

“To see him rebuild his career, which resulted in a recall to the Dutch national team, was also a special moment for Tim, his family and the club.

“We of course wish Tim well in the future. We all look forward to welcoming him back for an upcoming home game at Carrow Road, so that our supporters can show their appreciation for all that he has done for the club.”
