Norwich City were beaten 1-0 by Blackburn Rovers in David Wagner's first game as Canaries boss, Jack Vale's goal the difference at Carrow Road.
It was a frustrating FA Cup third round afternoon for Wagner's side, who had 25 shots but failed to create clear-cut chances in a windy and wet NR1.
There were still signs of optimism as the German's new charges showed glimpses of his trademark style, however.

We appeared to have more energy and endeavour today but the lack of quality is there for all to see. This is a very poor squad and will need some masterful coaching to galvanise them to the levels the fans expect. Need some new faces urgently #ncfc

Wagner's had 1 or 2 days training and there was a lot to be encouraged by, better intensity, football, movement. Giannoulis immense, linked superbly with Onel. Hanley howler was the only time Blackburn had a chance. Swap Sarge for Idah and Todd for Nunez and we're good 💪🇩🇪 #NCFC

Hope that match made Wagner realise the tough job he’s just taken on here, cause that defeat was self-inflicted. 24 shots & 10 corners with 0 goals also doesn’t just show a team that’s underperforming & low on confidence, but a set-piece coach that honestly needs sacking… #ncfc

🔰🗣 “This #NCFC team looks like a team that doesn’t know how to win.”

🟡🟢 What do you think went wrong today, City fans? pic.twitter.com/mU0XBJNKrR
Least wagner will learn about his sqaud after todays game, week on the training field with these players is exactly what he needs. Onto Preston next weekend #ncfc

Defo an improvement. Need some natural wide players. Angus back in pls and Dimi to stay. I’d like to see Teemu dropped too and Sarge as lone forward #NCFC

24 shots, 20 corners and no goals is abject. But we weren’t going to win the FA Cup this year anyway & Wagner only had a couple of sessions with the team before the game. So I look at it almost like a pre-season game for the new coach…He’s got a long to do list. Onwards. #ncfc

Another impotent display against a bang ordinary side. We had 20 corners and did nothing with them - so much for our set-piece specialist! And I wouldn't entrust some of them to deliver a paper, never mind a cross. Msssive task for Wagner #NCFC #Norwich

Thought we played well, intensity far better, would like to see us become more clinical with our finishing and defending 😉.

More importantly, even though we lost, I ENJOYED it!!!#NCFC 💚💛
Krul and Hanley been excellent for us in recent times but not been good enough recently. Krul been dropped by Gunn who bar from Sarge has been POTS. Hanley poor on the ball and overall sloppy and clumsy at the moment. #NCFC

Not awful but a poor result. Lots of shots but very blunt. Not sure why the ref booked their RB early on 2nd half for time-wasting then let the rest of their team do as much as they want? #ncfc

Better performance with intent, more often than not it would be enough for a positive result but many of the familiar issues remain. Probably a positive DW first game was a pointless cup game rather than a pointless league one. Not got much time but change won’t be instant #ncfc

24 shots. 20 corners. 0 goals.

The lack of quality in the final third is frightening.#NCFC.
Today could be the best thing for #ncfc Very little quality, very little intensity. Wagner now knows what he’s bought into. The only way is up, it can’t get any worse (can it?) Looking forward to seeing what he can change for Saturday

The squad is just so poor. We need some major quality injected into the squad and we all know it’s not going to happen. #ncfc

We have way more dead weight than it is reasonable to expect us to move on in the time frame we need to do it. We were OK today though, wouldn't be as daft as to say we deserved to win or anything mind. Only the 2nd worst defeat to Blackburn in a month. #ncfc
