Norwich City Women 2 Actonians Ladies 0
Shannon Shaw scored twice as Norwich City progressed to the last eight of the Women’s National League Plate by defeating London-based side Actonians at The Nest.
The Canaries controlled proceedings in the first half but had their work cut out in terms of chance creation, with the visitors defending resolutely.
Lara Densley and Lauren Tomlinson both stung goalkeeper Elisa Dogor’s gloves with shots from range, while Shaw also went relatively close with a header.
Actonians gave City a glimpse of their attacking capabilities immediately after the interval, but Sarah Quantrill was equal to Mana Lalani’s poked effort.
Just after the hour, visiting stopper Dogor made a brilliant save to keep out Shaw’s shot from distance. However, the City striker managed to break the deadlock a few moments later, receiving the ball from Millie Daviss and slotting home confidently.
Four minutes from time, Shaw confirmed City’s place in the quarter-finals by tapping into an empty net after substitute Holly Kennard’s header was saved by Dogor.
Norwich City: Quantrill (c), Flye, Medd-Gill, Strauss, Daviss, Booty, Morran, Tomlinson, Shaw, Densley, Symonds. Subs: Todd, Snelling, Cook, Kennard.
