AFC Sudbury 1 Norwich City Women 1

Norwich City dropped points for the second straight match after they could only draw with AFC Sudbury at the MEL Group Stadium.

The Canaries, who finished the match with 10 players, found it difficult to create clear-cut chances in their battle with Chesham United at the weekend but did not experience the same problem against their Suffolk opponents.

Sudbury goalkeeper Nina Meollo made an excellent save to keep out Shannon Shaw’s volley only three minutes into the first half.

However, Meollo could only stand and watch as Tamsin Medd-Gill nodded Freya Symonds’ cross past her and into the net a minute later to score her first City goal.

Good opportunities fell to both Shaw and Natasha Snelling either side of the break, but they failed to increase City’s advantage.

The hosts’ belief grew as the evening progressed, and quick forward Jessica Allen equalised for them in the 71st minute, taking advantage of some lacklustre defending.

Former Sudbury winger Holly Kennard was sent off for a second bookable offence with just over 10 minutes left, which made City’s task more difficult, but they held on to remain unbeaten in the league.

Norwich City: Quantrill (c), Medd-Gill, Flye, Strauss, Moore, Hailes, Powell, Kennard, Symonds, Shaw, Snelling. Subs: Daviss, Smith, Densley, Cook, Booty.

Meanwhile, City have been drawn at home to Needham Market Women in the third round qualifying of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.

The match will take place at The Nest on Sunday, October 13 (2pm).

City were unable to make it past the third round qualifying of the competition last season, losing 2-0 at London Bees.
