Chesham United 2 Norwich City Women 2
Norwich City came from behind on two occasions to draw with Chesham United at The Meadow.
Chesham only managed one win from their opening four league matches prior to the visit of the Canaries but they approached the game bravely, committing several attacking players forward when they could.
The hosts forced Sarah Quantrill into two smart stops before the break, with Gemma Fraser finding enough room to get a shot away on both occasions. At the other end, City created very little.
Andy Cook’s side looked more threatening at the start of the second half, going close through Holly Kennard and Natasha Snelling, but it was Chesham who broke the deadlock, with Fraser chipping the ball over Quantrill in the 73rd minute.
City responded by introducing Ellie Smith from the bench and she assisted their first equaliser, laying the ball off for Ella Powell who found the top corner of Nicole Spittle’s net.
However, less than a minute later, Fraser fired the hosts back in front from the edge of the City box.
The Chesham forward then missed an opportunity to secure her hat-trick, before Ceri Flye came to the rescue for City by netting a 90th minute goal from close range.
Norwich City: Quantrill (c), Daviss, Flye, Strauss, Moore, Medd-Gill, Hailes, Kennard, Snelling, Symonds, Shaw. Subs: Johnston, Smith, Powell, Densley, Cook.
