Norwich City's pre-season campaign came to a flat end as they were beaten 3-1 by German side St. Pauli.

The result means just one win from their six warm-up fixtures this summer, as the Canaries head into next weekend's Championship opener at Oxford United.

City started the better of the sides, enjoying most of the territory and seeing their high press pay off. They created chances for Jonathan Rowe and Josh Sargent to open the scoring, but both were foiled by visiting stopper Nikola Vasilj.

Instead it was the Boys in Brown who scored first, Jackson Irvine finding room in the box to head Eric Smith's corner home unchallenged.

If that goal was poor defensively the second topped it, Jack Stacey dispossessed in midfield and Morgan Guilavogui in position for a simple finish.

It was three by the 39th minute, yet another giveaway, this time from Ben Chrisene, allowing a simple finish for Johannes Eggestein.

But Johannes Hoff Thorup made two changes at the break, and before long his charges were back in the game. One of them included moving Jacob Sorensen into midfield, and he was in the perfect position to pick out Rowe to drive beyond Vasilj.

There were chances for Grant Hanley and Danel Sinani to score for their sides, but the hosts' positive opening to the second half fizzled out as their league preparations came to a benign end.
