Timm Klose has backed friend Christian Fassnacht to find his best form at Norwich City after a stop-start period in England.

The Swiss international arrived in Norfolk from Young Boys last summer but has failed to get a consistent run of matches owing to indifferent form and fitness issues, which has seen him start under half of his 48 league appearances for the Canaries.

Klose knows Fassnacht from their time together playing internationally for Switzerland, and the winger contacted the former City defender about the prospect of moving to Carrow Road.

The Championship has proved challenging, but Fassnacht did end up as City's third highest scorer last term behind Josh Sargent, Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe.

By his own admission, Fassnacht's opening season in England after leaving Switzerland for the first time in his career didn't go as well as he'd hoped - but Klose has backed him to rediscover his form as he fights for a starting spot in Johannes Hoff Thorup's side.

"He's the kind of player who never gives up normally. He is a guy who runs until he cannot run anymore, and technically, he is not too bad, so he will produce something for you, especially in front of the goal - he's a natural finisher.

"Sometimes injury and confidence is the key thing in football. If you're not confident enough to play your game, obviously, that will stop you from being your best on the pitch. He just needs to go out and play his football without thinking too much about what is going to happen or what people are going to say, even the gaffer.

"Sometimes in the season before, we saw that quality, but then it vanished again because of injuries or because he was not confident enough.

"It's a bit similar to me. If you play and you're not getting injured, then you get back to the level that you want. The biggest and hardest part is to stay on that level and produce every week. Every week you have to give assists, goals and something back to the club."
