Emiliano Marcondes' emergency October arrival at Norwich City was a long time in the making.

The two parties flirted over a potential move throughout the summer, and Marcondes enjoys a close relationship with City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, which stemmed from their spell at Danish club Nordsjaelland.

Prior to taking the job at Carrow Road, Marcondes was one of the people that Thorup called for insight on the Championship. The pair agreed to remain in touch in case a possibility emerged for them to work together in Norfolk again.

Despite negotiations taking place at various stages of the summer, the window passed without an agreement before injuries in attacking areas opened a vacancy for Marcondes to join the City project.

“There have been talks for the whole summer. At one point, we were not in the negotiations or talks because Norwich are changing to go with young players," Marcondes told the Pink Un.

"I know Johannes, and I spoke to him last season when I heard he was going to the Championship, and I was back in Nordsjaelland talking to him and the other guys.

"He was asking me a bit about the Championship because I have been here for a long time, and I said, ‘I am a free transfer, so let’s keep in contact over the summer’. There were lots of other things that happened, but I’m glad that we came to this situation in the end.”

Marcondes late arrival has required a period to build up his fitness, something thwarted by City's injury crisis that has pushed him to the limit.

It has also seen the experienced Danish midfielder exposed to several positions in the early weeks of his Norwich career, including central midfield, out wide and as a false nine to help with shortages in those areas with key players sidelined.

"I feel quite comfortable in different positions. I know his style and what he wants," Marcondes said. "That can help me with my fitness because I know when to press, when to sprint and what positions and areas to be in.

"I feel confident. I'd like a few more points, but I'm very happy to be playing football again. That was my goal in the summer. I feel very good."
