Staying level-headed amid adversity is Johannes Hoff Thorup's biggest challenge to his players amid a downturn in form at Norwich City.
Consecutive defeats and a threadbare squad have asked serious questions of several young players, and those problems show little sign of easing as the Canaries prepare to host Bristol City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Thorup has explained why remaining balanced, despite a concerning performance at Hillsborough in midweek and a late defeat at Cardiff, is of paramount importance if they are to chart a different future for Norwich in the long-term.
"We cannot be too affected by the emotions in football. We need to stay on a consistent level both with our emotions and performance," he said.
"Now they know me a little bit better, it's not because we win 4-0 at home against Hull that I'm celebrating for 24 hours, that's the hard part about being a coach in this league. It takes 10 minutes, and then it's on the next one.
"That's the same when we lose a game. We need to focus on what we can do better. I don't show up every day affected by either a win or a loss. The same with the players.
"There is a good vibe at the moment, and what we see is that some players we didn't expect to take responsibility this season are trying to do it.
"Then, hopefully, when we are back at the end of November, and more of the players are coming back from injuries, we are in a position where we can overcome a difficult position at the moment to create an even better foundation for the future."
City's lengthy injury list has provided an explanation, but not an excuse, for their struggles in consecutive away matches, and Thorup has explained why he is opting to support and not criticise his squad.
"We could see on the back of the Cardiff game - with the injuries, the energy in the group - several players were pushed to the limit. You could also see that performance-wise.
"It's so easy to go down that road where I'm just emotional, and I'm shouting and screaming at the players because they aren't doing well. That's not the case at the moment. I see players who are trying everything," City's boss said.
"I only see players who are fully committed to everything we do and are supporting each other. That is what makes me positive, especially for the future."
