Emiliano Marcondes is confident that Norwich City have the options to deal with their growing injury crisis.
City are without a string of frontline options, including Josh Sargent, Marcelino Nunez, Angus Gunn and the suspended Kenny McLean for at least the next two matches, and lacked depth when dealt a sucker punch by Cardiff.
With none of their sidelined players expected back this side of the November international break, City will need to find solutions to remain competitive and extract points from matches against Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City.
“I see it again and again for every team. I have tried it before in the Championship that you play a lot of games and play with either youth players or some who have not played a lot in the first team.
“I believe that Norwich are in a great place with their academy,” he said. “There are some good young players training with us so I’m quite confident that they can go in and take some places.
“I’ve always played in an academy where they believe in the young players so it’s quite normal for me to play with young players, even when I was at Nordsjaelland, I was 22 and was playing with guys who were 17 or 18.
“I like to believe in the young players and support them the best that I can.”
Marcondes was brought to City as a free agent last month, partly due to injuries. He has been afforded little time to prepare for starts in the Championship, which, combined with adapting to his new surroundings, has made it a challenging start to life in Norfolk.
“It’s not that I don’t know the Championship, it’s more that I’m getting back into it again in a different team, a new club and new team mates,” the Dane said.
“I feel strong and fit. It’s just the last details of the positioning. I’ve been working hard all pre-season and I can feel that – it’s giving me the reward that I can run for a long time and have a good base of fitness.
“I’m one of the guys that runs a lot, and it’s always been in my style of play to run a lot and give a lot to the team in the pressing game. I’m still trying to build.
“I want to stay on top of everything and be fit for every minute has been the main focus in the beginning.”
