Mikel Arteta has hailed Jack Wilshere's contribution at Arsenal as the former England international puts the finishing touches on a move to Norwich City as first-team coach.

The Arsenal boss has been working with Wilshere during his transition into coaching at Arsenal after his retirement in 2022 and guided the 32-year-old on his journey in charge of the Gunners under-18 side.

As exclusively reported by the Pink Un yesterday, Wilshere is in advanced discussions over joining Johannes Hoff Thorup's coaching team in a move that would reunite him with City's sporting director Ben Knapper.

Arsenal are believed to be extremely proud of Wilshere's coaching journey at the club with City in conversation with the Premier League challengers over compensation, which isn't expected to cause any problems. Confirmation of the move could come at the start of next week.

Arteta was quizzed about Wilshere ahead of Arsenal's top-flight clash against Bournemouth this weekend and was quick to hail his work with their young talent.

"We brought him in as a club, and he has been phenomenal. Everyone knows about his career and character, and he has a really special personality," Arteta told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

"His attachment to the football club is unique, and he has an aura, charisma and a way to connect with the club and our people. Since he came here, he's had a real impact because he's been an inspiration for the kids because of the history with the club and the way he did it.

"What comes next is his decision and the club as well."

The former Arsenal and England midfielder became City's first choice after they narrowed their shortlist to two options. The other was believed to be working overseas at another club, but is also familiar to Knapper.

Wilshere is thought to be extremely keen to join Norwich and continue his coaching education alongside Thorup.
